Cheers to a new beginning.
The word “Cheers” expresses good wishes. We, the third-year students, graduated from our graphic design program at Dawson, and we celebrated with a happy and accomplished feeling while cheering each other.
My goal for this poster was to highlight the achievement and the encouragement for the end of a chapter and a new beginning. The word “cheers” is often used during a joyful event. Hence, the word should be portrayed as a light and fun concept.
A saturated and vivid colour palette is applied to the letters of “Cheers” to show the fun side. For a more dynamic feeling, the words are stretched and compressed either vertically or horizontally. It also gives the illusion of movement.
The information text follows a grid that is based on the big letters in the background. The sense of a vertical line from the right stem of the H to the background of the S is accentuated by the text alignment. The vertical position of the website breaks the horizontal sequence and puts emphasis on the stretched letter C.
This project gave us freedom for the concept and for the interpretation of it as long as the idea was clear. It was a project where I could apply all of my graphic design knowledge and have fun with it. The result does represent my style, and I am satisfied with the outcome.
